Music Program

Updated: Mar 30, 2021

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” ― Plato

Dreams for Mayan Children gave birth to the music program in 2018 in the small community of Nuevo Durango, Quintana Roo. Far from modern day touristic towns such as Cancun and Tulum is a village near to the Mayan Ruins of Coba. Nuevo Durango hosts only 58 families which is rich in culture and heritage. The first music director and dear friend Marcz Reyna, originally from Oaxaca, came on board with the project and took the kids under his wings. He also teaches music in Playa del Carmen and his organization is called “Xuune”. You can check it out on Facebook!

We would like to make a big shout out to Caribbean Fantasy who donated for Marcz to buy 6 guitars. He was able to purchase them in Michoacán, which is known for producing amazing musical instruments!

We would also like to recognize and give a BIG THANKS to Positive Legacy who funded grants for the music program for 1 1/2 years! Check out this amazing video!!

Within the first 2 years the children went from no musical experience to young inspiring musicians! They practiced playing guitar for 3 hours every weekend. They were fortunate to play in local concerts, fundraiser events and even take fun field trips to the beach and Xcaret. Their willingness to learn and positive benefits are endless. We are so grateful for Marcz planting the seed of music. Learning a musical instrument and music in general opens the mind and strengthens their lives in so many ways.

The program is more than just music though.

Check out the video of Marcz in action below!

What a beautiful song called Cielito Lindo!

A big thanks to:
